A lot of women love to accessorize themselves especially when their getup needs some prepping up. I myself leave it to my accessories when my dress is too plain and dull. A set of fine jewelry will make a big difference to a boring outfit. Happens to me all the time. But should I spend so much? I might as well get discounts on the jewels that I’d love to buy, save hundreds of dollars on my purchases and get the best value for my money.

Crazy over lamps
I love creating drama to my home. The kind that plays with the ambience according to my mood. And the lightings play a big role in achieving it. That’s why I’m crazy over lamps. I have floor lamps in the living room that not only act as lighting fixtures but accents as well. They compliment the zen theme of our living room so they make good value even when unlit. They’re simply good to look at and they don’t eat up much space.
The lamp in the picture above is one of the many classy table lamps I found over at farreys.com that I think would look good in our bedroom. I checked out some desk lamps too that would surely look neat in any home or office.
I’m generally a big fan of decorative lighting fixtures especially those droplets that hang from the ceiling but don’t look too grand as chandeliers. That’s about it for now. I’m off to scour more lamps, lol!
Have you heard about Direct Buy?
Direct Buy is a smart alternative to retail shopping. It allows you to buy items at manufacturer’s prices, eliminating huge markups you normally get from retail stores.
I was in the retail business for a number of years, handling both marketing and store operations. During big sale events, we would offer as much as 20-70% discount on selected items. You think we sold them at cost? No. We still had profits from them.
To hype up the event and entice more people over, we gave away raffle prizes like home appliances and furniture apart from the discounts. You think we were nuts? Not at all. In fact, we always surpassed our revenue and profit targets during sale events. Why can big retailers afford to give huge discounts plus other perks? Because they rake in huge profits from high markups.
So what if you could buy directly from the manufacturers or their distributor selling items at manufacturers’ suggested prices, would you? I would. That’s what Direct Buy is about.
In California alone, there are now 17 showrooms for you to check out. Visit Direct Buy Millbrae,Direct Buy Mountain View or Direct Buy Sunnyvale to learn more. You may also check online from the links above for showrooms nearest you wherever you are in the US or Canada.
Movie time: Slumdog Millionaire
We watched Slumdog Millionaire last night at SM City Marikina. I heard the reviews about this film were all good and that it even garnered a lot of international awards, including three Oscars. That got me curious.
So last night, I saw it for myself and found out why. The minute the film started rolling, I was sort of transfixed. I couldn’t remember any shot that got me bored. The cast did a great job in giving justice to their respective roles especially the three boys who played Jamal Malik, the slumdog who won 20 Million Rupees or approximately equivalent to USD 401,736.
The movie depicted India’s culture, life in the slums of Mumbai, the lives of orphans and homeless children, the main characters’ struggles and how Jamal sparked the hopes and dreams of thousands of ordinary people when he landed on the popular TV show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”
The flick also showed what true love can do and how long it can endure to hold on despite the odds. It gave me goosebumps over and over from beginning to end. Not like any other romance stories, Slumdog Millionaire is never cheesy. Director Danny Boyle made a masterpiece of a film with stark realities staring us in the face.
Have you seen it? You should.
Know the right credit card for you
Security and convenience are just some of the benefits of having a credit card. In these times when carrying a considerable amount of cash is getting quite risky, it is becoming safer and more popular to carry this piece of plastic instead. If you don’t have one yet and you feel like you need to get one, it would help if you have a pretty good idea about what credit card is right for you.
You need to decide what you’re getting a credit card for so you could maximize the benefits. Do you intend it to maximize your own business? To finance your education? To avail of airline rewards? For gas rewards? So on. Whatever your intention is, don’t just jump right into the bandwagon of getting a credit card just because everybody seems to have one. Check first what your needs are. For instance, if you drive everyday, a credit card that gives you gas rewards could benefit you the most. Or get an Airline Rewards Credit Card if you’re a frequent traveler.
A lot of people still veer away from credit cards for fear of overspending and raising their credit obligations up to their neck. On the other hand, a lot of people also think credit cards are a saving grace in times of need especially during an emergency. In the end, it boils down to being responsible in handling one’s finances.
Have you tried playing golf?
I’ve been meaning to try playing golf for once in my life but I feel like it’s too expensive a recreation for me. So I guess I’ll just have to content myself with imagining, lol!
A friend of mine has been talking me into it but I’ve been declining her offers to play golf with her. I couldn’t even grasp the whole jargon of putting, birdie, handicap, stroke play, match play and many others. She told me golf for beginners is quite tough but it isn’t that hard if you’re committed to learn the game and have fun. The problem is, am I? LOL! I admire her patience with me. She has so much passion for golf that she plays every week saying it relaxes her. Whew! Several hours under the sun, walking long distances and hitting golf balls - what a way to relax. My eyes pop whenever I see her collection of golf clubs (I didn’t know you use different types of golf clubs on different situations or shots), golf bags and golf shoes.
I have watched my friend play a few times and she’d always emerge from the golf course looking happy and rejuvenated. For reasons that I’ll probably not understand…until I try the sport myself.
