Drug addiction and the road to recovery
Drug abuse has ruined millions of lives over the years anywhere in the world. Famous celebrities like Andy Gibb, Jimi Hendrix and River Phoenix were known to have died from drug abuse complications. Hollywood stars Marilyn Monroe, Ana Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger were reported to have succumbed to overdose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Ordinary people of all ages, even school kids, have either ended or risked their own (and other people’s) lives due to substance abuse.
According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), drug addiction is a “brain disease that can be treated.” Being a brain disease, it naturally affects the patient’s brain activity and behavior. Abusers of illegal drugs eventually lose control of themselves, making them a threat to the community.
If you feel that someone you know might be addicted to drugs whether illegal, prescription or OTC, it’s high time that they get a Drug Treatment before they do themselves more harm. Prolonged use of excessive or illegal drugs is known to damage one’s mental health primarily, leading to unpredictable and often destructive behavior.
But they’re certainly not doomed. I myself have witnessed my uncle’s long-term battle with his drug addiction. He underwent a Drug Detox to rid himself of the toxins that have built up from his years of substance abuse. To help him further recover, my late grandparents sent him to one of the best Drug Treatment Centers that offer therapeutic approaches. Now, he’s totally kicked drugs out of his life.
Statistics from a yearly national survey show that one out of seven 10th graders use marijuana. Don’t let it happen to your own kids.

I have no real personal experience with this, but I have seen others who have. It can be very difficult, and lots of love, and support are needed.

A lot of people think drug addicts should just stop what they’re doing, but it’s way more serious than that.

Luckily I do not know of anyone with this condition, but I will keep it in mind in case it comes up.

Soooo sad, but always nice to hear that some ppl actually beats the habit.
I am not a mother, but I am a father, and I also fear for what might happen to my kids in the future.
Great post.

I know people who were able to overcome addiction. But it will take a great deal of courage and will power to acknowledge the addiction and to battle it. But it can be done.

My now 24yr old is a drug addict (recovering) - he’s now a qualified welder and is expecting his first baby in September.
He started abusing marijuana when he was just 12, took all our family to hell and back.
I have zero tolerance for people that say its ok to use just marijuana, in young teens this drug doesn’t kill your brain cells, but it does prevent new ones from forming. It leads to no end of trouble, trust me I know!!

Your uncle should be very proud of himself. Many people never overcome their addiction. I pray my children never have to live with any addiction.

I have come face to face with the horrors of having a drug addict in the family. It is a nightmare! I thought it was the end of their marriage, it almost was. Good thing that person agreed to undergo rehabilitation. Another blessing is that German-run rehab center. After two years of intensive rehab, that person gained back his self-worth. He is now-free from influence since he stopped five years ago.
